River of Sorrows: How It Deviated From The Original Story
This is a short list of the changes that were made while I was making River of Sorrows. My original story was very different. Here are the major and minor changes. Enjoy!
- In the original story, Kathleen was the MC (Main Character).
- In the original story, Henry's name was Kieran.
- In the original story, Felix was more flirtatious and "mysterious". He was also more hysterical.
- In the original story, Felix did not have any siblings. He was an only child.
- In the original story, Kathleen had a childhood best friend named Elliot.
- In the original story, there was no Rigel, Aaron, Lea, Bethany, Finn, Amber or Leon. Accordingly, their parents were also not present. In fact, this story had no adults present, which had to do with the plot.
- In the original story, Cassandra's personality was drastically different. She also had a male love interest named Jeremy.
- In the original story, Raelyn had an older sister named Veronica.
River of Sorrows first started as a completely different story that revolved around a bunch of teens stuck in a summer camp. They were trapped there against their will, and it became a murder mystery. Most of the teens went crazy and turned on each other. While others like Kathleen tried to find a way out. The story was messier, and it became more or less a mystery to the reader on who would survive.
Why did I change it?
I got bored with the concept. The plot was too messy, and it felt pointless to have so little characters left standing. Then I thought of a mysterious drowning idea and my story grew from there. River of Sorrows took me around four years or so to complete. There were at least five drafts, and most of them had vastly different outcomes as well.
